Abu'l-'Atahiya (also spelled Abul’Ataḥiya; "Father of the People") was a Persian (Iranian) Sufi mystic and poet, who lived in the 11th century CE. His poems are often compared to those of Rumi and Hafez, and he is considered one of the greatest Persian poets of all time. His full name was Abu’l-‘Ata-ḥiyya (“Father of the Ataḥiyya”), but he is also known as Abu’l-Ata-ḥiyya al-Ishraq, meaning “Father of the People of Ishraq.” He is also known as Muḥammad ibn Maḥmūd ibn al-Ataḥiya.
